Lease is Signed, Let the Construction Begin

Welcome to Lovejoy Workshop! We are happy to announce that Lovejoy Workshop is Under Construction! Since this is our first post on our new site, we want to take a minute welcome you. First and foremost, thank you so much for joining us! We are so thankful for all the love and support we have received from our family, friends, and the community! Opening up a retail store isn’t a quick process. From finding a space to executing a lease, selecting a contractor (Cornerstone Builders, Inc.), and waiting for #demoday we really had to relinquish control and just sit back and enjoy this crazy ride!

Our blog will be a place where we will share all the behind-the-scenes shenanigans at Lovejoy Workshop. We want you to be a part of our journey and there’s no better way than for you to follow along with us. Feel free to chime in and share our posts. Every effort will be made to respond to all comments as quickly as we can.

Now that we’ve taken care of our housekeeping, let’s get into some more exciting details. . .

Retail Space Wish-List

With the help of our amazing realtor, Nick Baldwin, we found the perfect space to call “home.” When we were looking for a retail space, there were several things we had on our “wish list.” We wanted a space that was within 15 minutes from our home. Being able to make an impact on the community in which we live in, is really important to us. Plus, with all the running back and forth, to and from the shop, we didn’t want to spend hours in the car each day!

Finding the right size space was really important. Roughly 1,400 square feet was our goal. Our workshop needs to be able to accommodate a manageable group of people. We didn’t want a space that was too large where we felt disconnected or a space that was too small, without enough room to spread out a bit.

Another must have was concrete floors. This is a workshop and we are going to get messy! Dealing with carpet was not something we wanted. Speaking of carpet, do you see the carpet on the walls?

With Paint and a Vision

Here’s the plan. . . we will remove all the partial walls in the space to open things up. This will really help make the space breathe and feel more open. It will also give us enough space for our workshop tables. Next on the list,  remove all the carpet from the walls and that lovely molding. Do you sense my sarcasm? Carpet on the walls!? Umm, no thank you! The carpet will be replaced with shiplap on both the north and south walls. Eek! We’re so excited to see all shiplap up.

Currently, the back of the workshop just has a bathroom and a mystery door that just leads to a window display area. Our daughter Kennedy calls that her office. Haha. Hey, we need an office too. We will be adding on a super small office, but at least it will be a place where we can store some things and keep them out of the way.

Decorative lighting will be added throughout the space. All the bulbs will be replaced with LED bulbs to make our space as energy efficient as possible. The large white ugly high-bay lights will also be removed or replaced.
